That wholesome American smile

with 3 comments

Monday. Eight something AM. At the corner beneath the telly in the US Embassy…

-

He: (smiles) Good morning.

She: (smiles) Morning. (glances at the thumb print scanner)

He: (continuous smile) How are you doing today? (or something)

She: (brief smile) Groggy. (looks at hands and thumb print scanner and desk, waiting to be ordered)

He: (slight pause) Didn’t have your coffee yet?

She: (surprised with the delay and looks at He in the eyes, regrets not wearing any vision aid to see how cute She suspects He to be, and smiles tentatively) I’m more of a tea person. (glances back at scanner)

He: Really? Why?

She: (looks up again) Coffee puts me to sleep.

He: (slight pause) What kind of a coffee person are you?

She: (chuckles) I don’t know. It just does!

He: (smiles) Maybe you didn’t have it decaf or something.

She: (hello?-flirt-alert! + why-o-why-didn’t-you-wear-your-contacts-you-smart-bitch) …Maybe I’ll try that in the States. (still smiling and glances at hands and wherever and shifts papers)

So what do I do? (feels stupid for feeling nervous and feeling stupid)

He: (clicks or something) Okay, you put your second finger of your left hand on the red light…

She: Okay… (puts finger on scanner)

He: (clicks and does whatever the monitor asks) Now you put your other finger…

She: (switches to the right)

He: (clicks) Wonderful. (proceeds with a hope-you-enjoy-your-stay-in-the-US-and-we’ll-call-your-number-shortly and a charming smile)

She: (smiles and thinks what-a-nice-guy-maybe-he’s-like-that-to-all-customers-or-maybe-not-whatever.) Thank you.

Tuesday. Eight something PM. Dinner at home…

-

She’s Dad: (in Mandarin) …when I went to get the visas at the gate, the guy from the thumb print counter was waiting and he passed them to me. I felt curious and thought, ‘Eh? Why would he come out?’

She’s Mum: (also in Mandarin) Don’t they all stay inside?

Tuesday. Nine something PM. On MSN with WhiteBoyLover

-

WhiteBoyLover says:
if he’s the guy i remember in the corner, i’d say he was semi-cute

WhiteBoyLover says:
ooh, lucky you
WhiteBoyLover says:
sounds weird though, when i was there everyone just got it from the guard

WhiteBoyLover says:
he was so flirting with you

~

They were right. Nothing mends broken hearts like distractions.

I think I’m going to like my stay in the States very much.

Oh yeah, don’t worry about it. I might just switch back to wordpress cos multiply’s being a bitch. It doesn’t posts my entries when i want it to and then totally loses my entries when I go back to the post page again. Chao cibai.

    Oh wells.
