Poor who?

The tragic hero.

One who dies for a noble cause in more ways than one.

Either (s)he loses the physical self, the spiritual self, or both. Due to life’s misfortune.

Usually cast in a tragedy; a fate which the audience would feel sympathy for, regardless of whether it’s worthy or not.

Because the tragic hero would be seen as human. It seems to make sense that the hero would feel jealousy, hatred, love, fear, pain, awe, respect, and other humane experiences.

So long (s)he was once noble. Reasonable.

Once.

Somehow, sometimes, the audience seem to neglect the hero’s flaws once they have bought the niceties the hero once presented. Whether for valour or for justice or for love.

On the other hand, the villian is just somebody nobody seems to like.

Even if they’re only doing their job.

Similarly, the victim faces two kinds of judgments.

One, the victim seems to be foolish. The victim was gullible. Ignorant. “Stupid”.

The whole how-can-you-actually-fall-for-that or stop-wallowing-in-your-self-pity-you-pathetic-fuck-wake-up-will-you.

But those who judge that way don’t seem to realize that it’s not always the victim’s choice to experience the pain. It’s not their choice to feel violated.

Like how nobody asks to get raped.

Even worse is when the offender doesn’t warn beforehand.

Like how nobody asks to fall flat on their ass on the seesaw.

After all, they didn’t see it coming.

Plainly unfair.

Funny how some people can blame the victim. That kind of victim.

Though, sometimes, the victim does ask for it. Victims who did see it coming to them.

Victims who should know better than to enter a lion’s den. Without proper research.

Victims who should know to run away while they still can.

Lack of wisdom; stupidity.

On the other hand, nobody seems to empathise with the offender.

People seem to like to blame them though they don’t understand their motives.

Worse, they don’t try to.

So sometimes the offender’s better intentions may be more justifiable than the victim’s sufferings.

Like how it’s better to “be cruel to be kind”.

But few people realize that.

Ambiguous situations with necessary evils like these are few and far between.

I don’t think any selfish intentional crime that hurt could be justified for the greater good.

Then again, the line between the victim and the offender is often blurred.

meaning the victim can be the offender?

the problem with roles is that everyone views things differently or are influenced by the thoughts of society & those around.

we like our heroes flawed, coz in our eyes it makes them more believable… more human… more like you & i.

we point at the victim coz its easier chicken-shit then pointing at the offender.

anything that needs justification is in itself oft a sad excuse no matter how much deco or logic we put up.

thats why we collect friends to ‘use’ for when we have a rainy day or violent anger we need to rant. just kidding.

The world is unfair, and sometimes, where only victim and offender is concerned, what people say/think/point their finger at doesn’t mean anything to either.

Humans like to take sides. The ones who are ill-informed or short-sighted will just join the majority and point their fingers at whatever they can to feel righteous.

My little cousin would always ask me to identify the good guys and the bad guys whenever he watches films. And he would normally be a little confused when the role switch takes place in the twists of plots.

There’s no more right and wrong, only intentions that are favouring our own parties or otherwise.
