Beauty

An excerpt from The Star Online eCentral:

It’s no wonder then that 8TV has decided to launch an original hot new reality show called Most Beautiful for all Malaysian to decide on the true definition of beauty.

“It is a reality show with a difference…we want to unearth talented women who are beautiful both inside and out, all-rounders who possess the X-factor,” said Ahmad Izham Omar, the station’s chief operating officer.

“We are looking for a variety of women of various races, heights and body sizes. These women will be tested in various challenges designed to reveal their inner beauty as well as outer beauty.

“But in the end, it is the audience who will tell us who they consider most beautiful.”

The station hopes to receive applications from those who think they can make it or maybe nominate someone they know who could be the “Most Beautiful” person.

A retarded waste of space. Now beauty contests have upgraded to reality TV show status. It’s like putting a bimbofying program in a more intellectual genre of shows. Kudos to the clever plan of wasting money on advertising space, on-air time, PR consultation fees, makeup services and so forth. They seem to have ran out of ideas for worthwhile TV programs.

Then again, they’re just banking in on an idea that has mass appeal. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised at my fellow Bodohlanders at all.

Shallow.

Contradiction. They want to “decide on the true definition of beauty”. They want the X factor and all that shitload of bollocks. Might as well run a Malaysia’s Next Top Model. Modeling agencies love the “X factor” anyway.

If you want to know what really is beautiful, why even place requirements for “an all-rounder”? How can one be the “most beautiful” if she has more physical beauty than mental beauty and vice versa? And what if (to make this sound more like a genuine search for the “most beautiful” person in Malaysia) the person with an equally stunning looks and IQ, does not have the EQ to match up with a fugly person who is a genius in EQ? Is the former still considered as “Most Beautiful”? Should the person with the most beautiful heart be cast aside from the winning title because she’s physically fugly and does not conform to the media’s beauty ideal?

Is it even necessary to conduct all this beauty search? Would it affect our lives in a way that matter? Is it that important to know who is the “most beautiful”? Wouldn’t it be a better way to spend all that cash needed to set up this search on the Make Poverty History campaign?

Think about it. Where is priority here?

Check out 8TV’s website where a poll is currently going on how people view beauty, and you will be surprised to find out that as of last Friday, more people have chosen ‘inner self/personality’ as the definition of beauty.

Why am I not surprised…

And ain’t that stupid? The result is out already. Heart over looks. Why bother looking for outer beauty at all?

Dumbass producer.
